RECOMMENDATION:

Approval of Policy 6200-01 Municipal Naming, Monument, and Sponsorship Policy

SUMMARY STATEMENT:

On August 8, 2023, City staff presented the Municipal Naming Policy to the Parks and Recreation Commission. This was a starting point in efforts to establish a Citywide policy governing the naming of municipal facilities and monuments throughout the City.

Over the past two years, multiple Departments have received numerous requests regarding placing plaques, benches, and monuments on City property in honor of local citizens who have made significant contributions to the community.  The PRCS Department has been tasked by the City Manager's office to develop procedures and policies for establishing guidelines concerning monuments, plaques, and memorials.

This policy has been presented and reviewed by the City Executive Team and the Beautification Commission and updated based on their feedback.  City Staff recommends the approval of municipal naming policy and procedures based on the recommendations.
