SUMMARY STATEMENT:

The City Clerk’s Office received 14 total applications for the 2023 Beautification Matching Grant Program ahead of the March 9, 2023, deadline.

The Beautification Commission reviewed applications during a work session on March 17, 2023 and voted to approve recommendations to City Council on April 6, 2023.

This year, 2 applicants did not meet requirements, 8 applicants qualified as Tier 1, and 4 applicants qualified as Tier 2.

Tier 1 properties are located in the core of downtown Valdez and have not previously received funding through this program.

The recommendation that emerged from the work session was to fully fund allowable expenses for Tier 1 applicants. The total amount of funding to do this would be $73,995.20.

A detailed list of proposed Tier 1 grant awards is attached. Original Tier 1 applications are attached for reference as well.
