RECOMMENDATION:

Approve the Contract Award with Wolverine Summit JV for the Robe River Well House Project in the amount of $282,000.00

SUMMARY STATEMENT:

Project Description: This project includes the removal and replacement of the existing Robe River Pump Station Fire Pump/Engine driver and concrete pad, as well as all electrical work to make this system operational. The fire pump must also have telemetry communication with the City of Valdez SCADA system.

Construction Schedule: The contractor will have until May 30th, 2022 to complete all work.

Engineers Estimate: $190,000.00

Bidding: Wolverine Summit JV was the only bidder.

Justification: The fire water booster pump at Robe River has failed and has reached end of life. Replacement parts are not available and would have to be machined at a great expense. Originally, we discussed replacing the pump with an electric pump but that would require a new pump as well as upgrading the back-up generator. Using a new diesel pump will be a better value to achieve necessary flows on the fire water system. Additionally, our in house mechanics are accustomed to working on diesel engines and troubleshooting issues in the future will have fewer challenges than an electric pump.
