SUMMARY STATEMENT:

The Founders Memorial Committee comprised of the following members: John Clark (Port of Valdez Company), Nicholas Farline (City of Valdez), Anna Bateman (Valdez Native Tribe), Patty Relay (Valdez Museum), Meredith Nobel (Senworks), Maggie Nylund (Magpies), Rhonda Wegner-Taylor (The Painted Moose). The Committee selected (76 submission by artists all over the word) three finalist whom will create a design for submission and review by the committee. The committee will chose the winning submission and present the submission to City Council for final approval.

The final three artists are:

Ion Ontuan, Gar Lasalle- Classic Foundry- www.classicfoundry.com

o                     Seattle, WA

                     Matthew Geller- www.matthewgeller.com

o                     New York, New York

                     Brian Keith- www.brinakeithfineart.com

o                     San Ramon, California

The three finalist will be visiting Valdez to learn more about the community and location (entrance of Meals Hill off Hazlet AVE) middle of August through end of August. Final submission by the artist will be at least one month after their visit to Valdez.

The City of Valdez is not responsible for any financial contributions and the cost of ongoing maintenance of the art projects is a key factor in both the selection of the finalist, and on the final design that will be presented to City Council for final approval.
