SUMMARY STATEMENT:
This apparatus is a 2021 Rescue Unit manufactured by Pierce Manufacturing, Inc. of Appleton, Wisconsin, a subsidiary of Oshkosh Corporation and is a 2021 Major Equipment budgeted item. The Rescue Unit will be delivered to Hughes Fire Equipment's dealership in Springfield Oregon for installation of accessories and a final inspection before being transported to Valdez. Cost for the delivery of the apparatus to Valdez, as well as two inspection trips (including in-State travel @ $5,000.00) by City personnel to the factory is included in this price. The inspections include a pre-build meeting with Pierce engineers, and a final inspection.
The City of Valdez will receive a savings of $14,030.00 by taking advantage of pre-payments during the build process. This has been the practice for the last five purchases of fire apparatus.
The purchase of this Fire Rescue Unit will give the City of Valdez a modern fleet of front line Apparatus, six of seven frontline apparatus are built by Pierce Manufacturing, this allows for ease of operation and maintenance of the fire department fleet.
The purchase price of this Rescue Unit is based on the unit being purchased through HGAC contract FS12-19. The HGAC is the most common method used for purchasing fire apparatus, in fact there were over 500 fire trucks purchased via this consortium last year.
