SUMMARY STATEMENT:
This truck is a budgeted purchase and can be found in the 2021 Major Equipment Budget under Solid Waste. This truck will be a new addition to the fleet and is being purchased to support the Wildlife Resistant Container (WRC) Program that was implemented in 2020. The overall response to the WRC Program has been very positive with 853 Wildlife Resistant Containers distributed throughout the community and more containers are expected to be distributed this year.

Currently the Solid Waste Department uses a Curotto Can to pick up and empty the wildlife resistant containers, this only requires one person to operate and has proven to work well other than it has needed considerable maintenance/repair to keep it operational. This new Peterbilt/Labrie truck is a considerably more robust design and it will allow for greater operational efficiency by limiting the machine down time. This truck is also designed with superior in-cab ergonomics to limit operator fatigue. This new side load or "side picker" type refuse truck has proven to be very reliable technology, only needs one person to operate it, and is the most commonly used truck throughout the Solid Waste Industry for emptying individual refuse cans.
