SUMMARY STATEMENT:
Project Description: This project will construct a new, 800 lineal foot long dike along the northwest bank of the Valdez Glacier Stream. It will be located, upstream of the bridge between the upstream end of the new Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities dike and the corner of the Glacier Haul road (Dump road). This new dike will "fill in the gap" between ADOT's new dike and the corner of Dump road thus plugging a hole. Last summer during the outburst event, flood waters from the Glacier Stream eroded an emergency dike that was built in this location back in '15 and flooded the ditch line from the Glacier Stream bridge all the way to the Airport Road intersection. This new dike will be built to the same standards and design as the new ADOT & PF dike and serve to protect the bridge, bike path and Dump road next to the highway and prevent a reoccurrence from last summer's event. The City of Valdez and it's design engineering consultant DOWL worked with and met with the ADOT & PF design engineers over a period of two years to research and develop the project.
Construction Schedule: The Contractor has until June 10, 2019, to complete construction. The expected start date is the week of May 27, 2019.
Liquidated Damages: $1,500.00 per day
Bidding: Length of bid period was 30 days. Two bids were received.
Engineer's Estimate: under $500,000.00
