RECOMMENDATION:

Approve Change Order with Wolverine Construction for District Office HVAC Project in the amount of $48,635.78

SUMMARY STATEMENT:

The existing Valdez School District Office waterlines date back to original construction and have been leaking and are filled with rust and scale. The school district recently discovered a new leak above the restroom that was just remodeled this past summer. The contractor currently on site has many of the areas already open as part of the boiler replacement, HVAC upgrades project and can install new waterlines in conjunction with that work.

While this change order is not required to complete the current scope of work, it is being presented because of the added value it not only brings to the school but the City as well. The District Office Waterline Replacement project is currently one of the higher ranking projects on the Major Maintenance list. The price proposal is within the Engineer’s Estimate for the scope of work. By incorporating this change within the project it would save the City from adding and managing a separate project, reduced mobilization costs as the contractor is on site, and prevention of future damage from a failing system.
