RECOMMENDATION:

Approve the contract with Harris Sand and Gravel, Inc. for the West Klutina, Repave, Gutter and Sidewalk Replacement Project in the Amount of $ 1,680,871.

SUMMARY STATEMENT:

This project was out to bid for twenty days and three (3) bidders submitted bids. Harris Sand and Gravel, Inc. submitted the lowest bid.

West Klutina was last overlaid in the 90’s and the road surface is delaminating in many areas. The existing roadway experiences poor drainage, some sections of the roadway are subsiding, the existing sidewalk is cracked and heaved and the lighting is substandard. Work on the project will entail replacement of the existing asphalt surface, installation of new curb & gutter along both sides of the roadway, replacement of catch basins, replacing and widening the sidewalk to 5’ in width and replacing the existing street lights with a greater number of new poles and fixtures. The new light poles next to the school parking lot will be fitted with additional fixtures orientated to illuminate both the street and the parking lot.

Construction will begin in late May/early June and be substantially complete by August 17th.
