Authorize the city manager to enter into negotiations with the Port Valdez Company for the purchase of a five acre parcel located at 802 W. Egan Drive, described as Lot 3, Tract K, Mineral Creek Industrial Subdivision.

SUMMARY STATEMENT:
At a work session held on April 3rd, 2018, the City Council identified this parcel as the preferred location for the new fire station. Council directed administration to hold a public meeting with the residents of the Winter Park subdivision located in the immediate vicinity of this property to disseminate information regarding the proposed project and obtain feedback from residents. The homeowner's meeting was held on April 24th. A report detailing the comments and concerns from residents who attended the meeting is provided in the reports section of this agenda.

The city manager is requesting authorization to enter into negotiations for the purchase of this property from the Port Valdez Company. Following negotiation, a resolution authorizing the purchase of this property would be brought back to the city council for consideration.

The City of Valdez identified the need for a new fire station as outlined in the attached document: Fire Station Deficiencies-Needs.

Bettisworth North produced the attached report (Valdez FS Report FINAL), which details the site selection process and states in its executive summary "that many industry wide standards and codes are not being met within the current fire station due to its age, size, and configuration.
