SUMMARY STATEMENT:

As requested by council attached is a detailed list of the overall Emergency Preparedness Exercise being conducted from February the 20th through the 26th, locally here in Valdez.

The City will play several roles during the response/exercise as follows;

                     The Port and Police Departments recognize that with our limited amount of city resources the Port and Police Departments would quickly become overwhelmed trying meet federally mandated security requirements and public safety over a prolonged event.

o                     We will be working to coordinate assets between the City and the Military to provide Port Security and Public Safety continuously throughout the event.

o                     This training event will satisfy the federally mandated 33 CFR 105 security exercise required for the Port Security Plan.

o                     Project lead Jenessa Ables and her staff have been working on a weekly basis since early fall of 2017 to assist with coordination, snow removal, site selection, and props for the simulation.

                     The Fire Department and City Administration will be working/observing within the Unified Command Team.

                     The Economic Development/Events Department has been involved and coordinating with the public to create a “Community Market” for the approximate 200 out of region response team personnel.
