RECOMMENDATION:

Discuss and consider incentives to develop housing for the Woodside Subdivision. We are also seeking input and interest from Council, in regards to proceeding with Cottonwood and Corbin Creek housing extensions, including platting, infrastructure development and potential land sales within these properties. The Economic Development Department will bring back all necessary information and documents for consideration at the September 17th City Council meeting to proceed with housing development in the areas that the Council selects and/or prioritizes.

SUMMARY STATEMENT:

Included are three maps of properties that are city owned land suitable for public/private housing development. These properties will fill a gap for different types of housing needs and they are in three separate locations in the city: The Woodside Subdivision, Cottonwood Subdivision Extension and Corbin Creek Extension. The Economic Development Department is recommending housing development in the Woodside Subdivision, and any direction from Council on how to proceed with developing Cottonwood and Corbin Creek housing extensions.

The Economic Development Department has received interest from developers regarding these sites. One of these developers is interested in purchasing Cottonwood Subdivision Extension Land from the City of Valdez for housing development. Developers will be encouraged to respond to a Request for Proposals that will be included in future documentation after the Council selects and or prioritizes the areas for housing development.
