SUMMARY STATEMENT:
Planning Department staff received temporary land use permit application 24-01 from the Valdez Adventure Alliance for use of a 6,000 square foot portion of 1500 Valdez Glacier Road, Tract A, ASLS 79-116 for staging of a fat bike race in the Valdez Glacier Lake parking lot. The event is scheduled to take place March 9th and 10th, they will have portable restrooms placed on March 8th and picked up on March 11th (see attached application.) This permit was paired with an access agreement for transport of riders from the TLUP location, via snowcat, up East Peak on March 10th for the downhill race.
Valdez Adventure Alliance submitted proof of insurance coverage satisfying the minimum limits set forth in code as well as their participant waivers for legal review.
Capital Facilities Director & Assistant City Manager Nathan Duval, Parks and Recreation Director Ken Wilson, and Economic Development Director Martha Barberio were solicited for comments on the application and had no comments except that the Adventure Alliance should not burn pallets at the location.
Fees for temporary land use permits were established by City Council with Resolution #23-43 which states that "for temporary land use permits for areas that are less than two acres in size, the fee shall be a flat monthly rate of $311 per month or a pro-rated daily fee of $11 per day for those periods less than one month." The fee for this permit is $44.00. Per Valdez Municipal Code Title 17 (Ord. 24-01), this short-term temporary land use permit was issued at the discretion of the Planning Department...
