SUMMARY STATEMENT:
On May 14, 2019 the Planning Department received application #19-01 from Copper Valley Electric Association (CVEA) for a rezone for a portion of ASLS 79-94, 1570 Dayville Road. This area includes the Solomon Gulch Dam, the dyke and the spillway area. The property is currently zoned Unclassified Lands. CVEA has plans to construct a 10’ x 20’ pavilion with a picnic table at the end of the John Hunter Memorial Trail, commonly known as the Solomon Gulch trail. CVEA requires a rezone to the Public Lands Zoning District to facilitate this request, as picnic facilities are a permitted use within this district.
Valdez Municipal Code17.06.82 requires a property owner notification for all property owners within a 300-foot radius of the proposed rezone. Notification was mailed on May 31, 2019 and the required notice was published in the Valdez Star on May 29 and June 5, 2019, two weeks before the public hearing.
