RECOMMENDATION:
Approve 2019 legislative priorities with any amendments approved by City Council
SUMMARY STATEMENT:
The 2019 legislative priorities include current Alaska Municipal League priorities adopted at their annual meeting last November. I spoke with Mr. Shawn Arnold, Valdez City Schools Superintendent to inquire about issues which the School Board may want the city to include in this document. Mr. Arnold approved the education priorities as is, however he could not speak for the School Board at this time. To date, the School Board has not adopted formal legislative priorities. He stated that he would speak to the Board President and would attend the meeting if there were any proposed amendments the School Board wished to offer.
Mr. Mike Wells, VFDA, was provided a copy of the proposed priorities for review. Mr. Wells approved the current language as stated in this document.
Following approval, the City Clerk’s office will prepare information packets to be distributed to our Lobbyist, the Governor, and State Legislators in Juneau.
