SUMMARY STATEMENT:
The Valdez Senior Center is reapplying for grant funding through the Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities, Alaska Community Transit (ACT) office for a Human Service Transportation Grant.
This funding supports transportation services enabling seniors and persons with disabilities to conduct activities of daily living which require transportation (e.g., grocery shopping, picking up medication, doctor visits, etc.).
Valdez Senior Center has filled the role of the lead transportation agency for the community since 2016 and on May 18, 2021, the Council approved the updated 2021 Community Transportation Plan (the previous plan was in effect from 2015-2021). A copy of the updated plan and summary of the transportation program’s history are attached for Council information.
The application from the Senior Center seeks funds to support and maintain our transportation program, including advertising, office expenses, vehicle fuel expenses, repairs/maintenance, and driver/staff wages.
The Valdez Senior Center is seeking a resolution from the Council supporting their grant application for fiscal year 2026.
