SUMMARY STATEMENT:
Background information:
This project will achieve 3 distinct but related goals:
a. The majority of the electrical distribution equipment that serves the VCT will be replaced and upgraded. The existing equipment is aged and at or past it's useful lifetime. These replacements/upgrades will ensure continued reliable electrical power distribution to critical equipment throughout the terminal
b. The number of reefer pedestals will be doubled. This will double the available capacity for cargo that requires refrigeration (i.e. for the fisheries) that the terminal will be able to support.
c. A significantly larger emergency generator will replace the currently installed generator. The current generator is only configured and able to support a limited amount of equipment on the terminal; namely the lighting and automated security gate. The replacement generator will better be able to support the lights and gate, and will also be able to provide power to all current and planned additional reefer pedestals. With the existing generator, a power outage in peak fisheries season of as little as 4 hours could wipe out millions of dollars of product. Following this project, the terminal will be capable of providing on site power to ensure those pedestals are power during significant power outage.
