RECOMMENDATION:

SUMMARY STATEMENT:

The Glacier Stream Erosion Mitigation project was out to bid for twenty eight (28) days and one (1) bid was submitted. Harris Sand & Gravel of Valdez submitted the bid of $3,699,600. This project consists of constructing six spur dikes along the existing riverbank next to Glacier Haul Dump Road. Additional work will include an access ramp to the riverbed, an access road to the dike structures and two gates.

The purpose of this project is to protect the landfill and Glacier Haul Dump Road from erosion from the Glacier Stream. Since 2016 this area has been experiencing high rates of erosion and the water has worked its way upstream of the existing armored bank along the road.

Construction is scheduled to begin in early May and be 100% complete by December 1, 2023.

A budget resolution is needed to cover the budget shortfall and is included for consideration.
