SUMMARY STATEMENT:
History: Prior to 2003, the residents of what was then considered Cottonwood, Blueberry Hill and D-8 (Homestead) were approached by the City with a plan to install several components of a neighborhood park. At the time, the idea was met with opposition from local residents. Trailhead facilities were installed as an alternative at the request of the neighborhood.
During the summer of 2014, the Parks & Recreation Department was approached by members of Cottonwood Subdivision inquiring about the steps necessary to coordinate the construction of a small playground area to serve the Cottonwood/Blueberry Hill/Homestead residents. A full-size park was not desired nor requested. As a result, a small community group consisting of several parents from the area joined together - in conjunction with the Parks Maintenance Supervisor - to assist in developing plans for a desired playscape that would benefit a diverse age-range of children. In the summer/fall of 2015, a design was chosen and eventually approved as part of the FY2016 Major Maintenance Reserve budget. Major site preparation was completed in Jul-Aug 2016 with final prep and construction slated for summer 2017.
