RECOMMENDATION:
Approve Snow Removal Contract for Areas 1 & 3 to Mega Trucking, LLC.
SUMMARY STATEMENT:
After evaluating bids from multiple contractors, the City has determined that Mega Trucking, LLC provides the best overall value for snow removal services. Mega Trucking offers a fully dedicated and experienced crew, an appropriately sized and well-maintained equipment fleet, and preparations for operational readiness including sand and salt stockpiles. They have no other competing snow removal contracts, ensuring full focus and availability for the City. This assessment was completed by the Public Works Director and the Fleet Manager of the Public Works Department.
The contract covers the following areas:
• AREA I - Atigun Drive, Salcha Way, Rudolph Street, Hobart Street, access to South Central Pump Station City Water Well #6, the Airport Parking lot, Zurich Loop Road, North Sawmill Drive, Mill Street, and 9th Street.
• AREA III - Corbin Creek Subdivision, off-highway parking for access to Alpetco Road, and off-highway parking at the ballfields.
While their rates are moderate, the assessment indicates they present a lower operational risk compared to other bidders. The average annual cost for comparable snow removal services from 2022-2024 was $255,898.92, demonstrating that this contract is consistent with historical expenditures. Awarding the three-year contract to Mega Trucking, LLC ensures reliable and efficient snow removal services for the City of Valdez over multiple winter seasons.
