SUMMARY STATEMENT:
The Valdez Container Terminal (VCT) electrical components have reached the end of their lifespan. The electrical demand during fishing season is growing but the supply remains unchanged. This design contract would address the failing and obsolete electrical issues as well as supply the VCT with more outlets to accommodate double the amount of refrigerated trucks during the peak fishing season. A new diesel generator will replace the old to accommodate this upgrade.
To summarize, the design is broken into three tasks:
1. Electrical Distribution Upgrades. This includes priority items at the floating dock, the distribution equipment, Arc Flash study, and exterior equipment at the maintenance building. These are either currently in code violation or nearing the end of its useful life.
2. Additional Refrigerated Truck Receptacles. Currently there are 180 receptacles, and this would add 180 more.
3. Generator Addition and Transfer Switches. With the current generator is reaching the end of its lifespan and the additional receptacles being added, a new generator is requested. The transfer switches allow two trucks to share one receptacle as the trucks do not need to be running 24/7.
The construction cost estimate will come by March 9, 2018. It's likely the current budget will not cover construction. Additional funding requests will be submitted to Council for approval.
The design contract is scheduled to be complete on April 20, 2018. Co...
