Approve Resolution #24-33 Adopting the City of Valdez 2024 Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan
SUMMARY STATEMENT:
The current City of Valdez Hazard Mitigation Plan was adopted in 2019 and expired in March. The Hazard Mitigation Plan Planning Committee met from February through July and provided input to staff in updating the plan. These meetings were open to the public. The city received 76 responses to a survey concerning area natural hazards.
A public open house was held on August 14, 2024, prior to the regular meeting of the Planning and Zoning Commission where the commission voted to recommend that the City Council adopt the Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan.
Once the Alaska Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) approves the plan, the City of Valdez will be eligible for hazard mitigation project grants.
