SUMMARY STATEMENT:
The ambulance was replaced in 2024 with a new ambulance as per the major equipment scheduled replacement.
City of Valdez has historically donated old apparatus to communities throughout Alaska which cannot afford to purchase new equipment on their own. In this case, the South Tongass Fire Department had a fire in their fire station on the evening of April 8, 2024. The fire destroyed all the apparatus in the station, including two ambulances and two fire engines. This donation will allow the South Tongass Fire Department to start providing services to their community as they wait for replacement equipment to be purchased and built. Keeping with this tradition of Valdez helping other Alaska communities, the Fire Department recommends the donation of this equipment to the South Tongass Fire Department.
South Tongass Fire Department has agreed to cover all transportation costs associated with the donation.
